Let the mind be an imagination into the world of flight. We look at life and ask ourselves if only I could fly, disengage in the traps of reality and venture out into a world of confusion; we look at is as trapped in the box. Let the mind imagine and become that butterfly starting from scratch yet never able to realize how capable at life it really is.
In the novel An Artist of the Floating World, written by Kazuo Ishiguor, the main character Masuji Ono appears to see life in the matter of trapped in a world where reality is knocking at his front door and he has no idea how to confront his issues. In the title ‘Floating’ is being perceived as an anchor confronting the competition of an artist and his time as a family figure.
Masuji Ono had many ups and downs with his family. Generally speaking his father was quite a stickler and wanted Ono to do exactly what he wanted. Basically reliving the life he never had through his son. Believing a life is meant to be a journey Ono took what his heart believed and became that artist he always dreamed to be. Ono was so passionate in his desire to be an artist he spoke harsh words and said he never wanted to be anything like his father.
Ono began to struggle as time proceeded. He began to realize and see signs of his father in himself. Falling in that trap of family traits, you sometimes don’t realize how deep in family roots you really are until its too late. Ono, trying to teach his grandson the ways, struggled to use his own wise facts but rather teach him through the way he was taught by his father. Just as the title is portrays, floating between the world one finds on his own versus the world you become through others.
After reading this piece of the novel about Ono I can interestingly say that life is exactly how you make it. There will be ups and downs, shortcuts, dead ends and yields yet we must choose our paths and battle the roads ahead. The only way to deal with issues is to do something about them and not just let it go in one ear and out the other, life’s not meant to be easy if it was this world wouldn’t be capable of life, conflicts is reality, either deal with it or fail in life. At this point I see Ono struggling to survive.
