Chico International Fair '08

April 30, 2008 / by jpatrickRyan

On the 26th of April, 2008, I attended the Chico International Fair located downtown Chico at the fairly new park.  It was a site to see, children and adults of every age mingled together and shared the true beauty of dance.  There was no sense or race or hatred toward each other, rather a love for the true meaning of dance.  This fair was so cool there was not only dancing going on but many booths as well.  Each booth represented a culture from around the world they had food and clothing that varied within the cultural type.  It was pretty amazing to see how different cultures were all together.

Now the coolest part of the Festival I believe was the live music performed on the new outside stage.  Being of a new era and not having a lot of musical background, it was quite intriguing to see that this band played covers of all sorts.  I especially liked when they played songs from the Rolling Stones one band that I actually did know about.  One funny, comical thing that happened was two adults dressed up in Tigger and Barney outfits to serenade the young children and keep them occupied while the older folks showed there love of dance while they took in the sweet songs of music.  The children were so excited to see these characters; it was as if they were in a cartoon themselves.

All in all, this Fair was quite amusing to see.  I would have never guessed a town like Chico would be so culturally sound, but after being apart of such a diverse stretch of people my aspect on life has changed.  We as a small community are changing for the better; looking at people for who they are not what they look like.  The Fair stands a great chance to keep growing and become very popular here in Chico.
